The Independent Lists Minsk as Top Destination to Visit in 2019

On January 4, The Independent, a British online newspaper, published its list of top Сontinental destinations to visit in 2019. Minsk, Belarus, is #1 in the list.

According to the newspaper, The 2019 European Games is one of the reasons to visit the Belarusian capital, ‘along with the new 30–day visa–free regime and a restored Old Town lined with hipster coffee shops and cocktail bars’. Western tourists will be pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness, safety, and friendliness of Minsk and its many beautiful churches, but they should not expect everyone to speak English.

The 2019 European Games will take place in Minsk from June 21 to June 30. The games will feature 200 events in 15 sports (23 disciplines). The organizers expect around 4,000 athletes from 50 countries. Belarus was selected as a host country for the second European Games on October 21, 2016.

The capital of Belarus is actively preparing for the flock of fans who will come to Minsk for The European Games. At the moment, new free wi–fi hotspots are appearing in the center of the city. The Free Wi–Fi Minsk network covers several metro stations, shopping centers, restaurants, gas stations, and medical institutions.
