Paris — Mosar Tractor Race in Belarus
On January 28, the first tractor race was held in Belarus. Inspired by the success of Minsk Tractor Works (MTZ) at the Dakar 2017 rally raid, the race started in Paris, Postavy district, Vitebsk region, Belarus. The competing tractors had to drive 17 kilometers and finish in Mosar, Glubokoye district, Vitebsk region.
The race was timed to coincide with the Belarusian Science Day. The participants were seven Belarus-3522 tractors, the most powerful vehicles produced by MTZ, and one caterpillar-tracked tractor. The race involved ploughed fields, water barriers, wood trails, and manmade barriers. Over 1,000 enthusiasts supported the participants at the race start and more than 3,000 people were cheering them on at the finish. To win the final trials, the contestants were expected to score a goal with a huge ball. In addition, a rope pulling competition was held where a caterpillar tractor defeated a wheeled one.
The organizers plan to conduct the next Paris – Mosar race in the Chelyabinsk region of the Russian Federation, though hoping that it will also become a tradition for the Vitebsk region of Belarus.
