Domracheva of Belarus Wins Big Crystal Globe

Darya Domracheva, a Belarusian biathlete and three–time Olympic champion, won her first Big Crystal Globe and the 2014/2015 IBU World Cup total score title.

The 2014/15 Biathlon World Cup is a multi–race tournament over a season of biathlon organized by the International Biathlon Union (IBU). The season started on November 30, 2014, in Östersund, Sweden, and ended on March 22, 2015, in Khanty–Mansiysk, Russia.

On March 22, the final race of the season was held in Khanty–Mansiysk. In the women’s mass start competition, Domracheva finished the 12.5 km race in 35 minutes 38.1 seconds with two errors. She was fourth and 48 points ahead of her closest rival Kaisa Mäkäräinen.

For the first time in her career, Domracheva captured the main prize of the biathlon season. Following 25 races, the Belarusian biathlete received 1,092 points in the overall standings and became the IBU World Cup winner. Kaisa Mäkäräinen of Finland took the second place with her 1,044 points, while Valentina Semerenko occupied the third place with 865 points in the final standings.

The men's trophy of the 2014/15 IBU World Cup went to Martin Fourcade of France who won 1,042 points. Anton Shipulin of Russia became the second with 978 points and Jakov Fak of Slovenia is on the third place with 883 points.
