Five Million Flowers Planted in Minsk This Year

On July 13, the Minsk City Executive Committee reported that five million flowers have been planted in Minsk since the beginning of the year.

Every citizen of Minsk can join the communal services in making the city greener. So far, 17 thousand trees and 60 thousand bushes were planted on the streets and in courtyards of Minsk. Around 1,400 building entrances underwent repairs.

Among the design innovations are flower beds with Belarusian motives, which can be seen in the Yanka Kupala Park. New vases were set up at the intersection of Kozlova Street and Independence Avenue, as well as in front of the Sports Palace.

Wooden tubs with coniferous and deciduous plants appeared on Independence Avenue. In August, the specialists also promise to plant chrysanthemums.

The preparations have already begun for the flower decoration of the Belarusian capital in 2017. Minskzelenstroy, an organization responsible for the decoration, are preparing materials for the purchase of bulbous plants, which will appear in the city in September and October. The organization also determined the places for planting tulips, hyacinths and lilies.

Despite the impressive number of plants in the capital, eco–activists still consider Minsk not green–enough. Thus, according to botanists, the city’s plants already can’t cope with pollution and many important and valuable trees are simply destroyed.
