German Culture Weeks in Belarus

From September 15 to October 31, German Culture Weeks will take place in Belarus. A six–week event will be held in 11 Belarusian cities and will feature film screenings, theater plays, concerts, poetic evenings, author readings, exhibitions, workshops, and seminars.

The cultural event will start on September 15 with a literary collage Hass ist ein Mangel an Fantasie (Hate is a Failure of Imagination) under the patronage of Helmut Kohl, former German Chancellor. Gregorij  H. von Letis will read texts of Jewish artists and people of art who were prisoners of the Theresienstadt concentration camp and confronted fascism.

Authors Jenny Erpenbeck and Robert Seethaler will be the guests of a literary meeting on September 22. Erpenbeck will present her book dedicated to the topic of refugees.

Older generations will have a chance to attend a presentation of a book titled Alt werden? Keine Zeit dafür! (Getting Old? No Time for That!) on September 30.

The German movie week will take place from October 17 to 21.

On October 15, Hannover State Theater will bring its play Der Auftrag (The Mission) to the MAZ Palace of Culture. The play tells a story of the French Revolution in Jamaica.

A study touching upon the history of the Maly Trostenets extermination camp from 1965 to modern days will be presented on October 12.

The whole program of German Culture Weeks can be found on the Embassy of Germany website.
