Belarus Wins Silver at Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championship 2014

From September 21 to September 28, 2014, the 2014 World Rhythmic Gymnastics Championship was held in Izmir, Turkey.  Fifty four countries participated in the championship.

The competitions in rhythmic gymnastics featured nine medal events. In the medal count, Belarus was ranked number four having won five medals, namely one silver and four bronze medals.  Russia, Bulgaria, and Spain filled the first three places of the medal count. By total number of awards, Belarus took the second place after Russia, Ukraine being the third with four bronze medals.

In the team event of the 2014 World Rhythmic Gymnastics Championship Belarus showed a good performance. In the team competition, Belarus was represented by Melitina Staniouta, Katsiaryna Halkina, and Arina Sharapa. Having scored a total of 136,073 points, the Belarusian athletes won the silver. Russia took the first place, while the bronze went to Ukraine.

At the individual finals, Melitina Staniouta, the leader of the Belarusian team, won the third place in the ball routine.

In addition, the all–around phase of the group finals brought the bronze medals to the Belarusian athletes in ten clubs, three balls and two ribbons events.
