Minsk 2014 To Be The Best Ice Hockey Championship Ever

On March 17, René Fasel, IIHF President, and Horst Lichtner, IIHF General Secretary, met with Alexander Lukashenko, President of Belarus. Held in Minsk, Belarus, the meeting was aimed at discussing the preparations for the 2014 World Championship.

Given that only eight weeks are left to the start of the championship, the preparations for the tournament are approaching their final stage. For the first time ever, the IIHF 2014 World Championship will be held in Belarus.

At the meeting, President Lukashenko said: “The world championship in Minsk will be the best championship ever. A championship is a success when all tickets are sold out. I would like to assure you that there will not be any single vacant seat. I am sure that you will be proud of this world championship”.

President Lukashenko explained that the Belarusian capital is prepared to host the tournament. The most advanced sports palaces and facilities have been built and the necessary infrastructure has been created. The entry to the country is visa–free for ice hockey supporters with tickets for any match of the championship. For IIHF, team staff, and journalists covering the event in Minsk, the visa–free entry process holds good as well.

“The country will be wide–open for visitors. We have done everything we could, so we will not disappoint you and visitors who want to see our country,” the Belarusian President said.
