Kupalskaje Kola Open Air Festival at Dudutki

Dudutki museum complex of ancient craft and technologies invites everyone to attend an open air festival titled Kupalskaje Kola (Kupalle Wheel) from June 20 to June 21, 2015. The event celebrates an ancient feast – Kupalle, timed to the Summer solstice.

Like no other feast, Kupalle is covered in legends and myths, and its ritesintertwine ancient pagan and Christian beliefs.

For two days, representatives of various music bands, andethnographicsocieties and museums, as well as students of the Belarusian State University will be sharing their experience in researching customs, traditions, and folk culture of our ancestors.

The festival will include many activities, including conferences, workshops, and master classes at numerous locations. The most spectacular event, however, will be a large–scale open air music festival featuring the iconic groups of domestic and foreign folk / folk–rock / pagan scene.

The list of the main areas of the festival includes the following zones:

  • Concert area: live music by folk / folk–rock / pagan bands
  • City of artists – craft workshops: forging, pottery, straw weaving, and ceremonial dolls
  • Fair: handmade products of traditionalcraft workshops, utensils,clothes,jewelry, andlinen
  • Active area: football, volleyball, and traditional Kupalle games
  • Ethnic area: recreation of traditional rites, divination, fortune telling, wreath weaving, and Kupalle fires
  • Science area: conferences, workshops, round tables
  • Photo exhibition.
