Central Cinema to Broadcast Live Theatre in Minsk

In October, the Visual and Performing Arts Center in Minsk is set to show the best world theater performances at the Central Cinema in Minsk. The performances will be broadcast live from such famous and iconic venues as the Metropolitan Opera in New York, Royal National Theatre, Globe Theatre in London, and the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow.

The productions will vary in genre from theater plays to opera and ballet performances. World famous actors, dancers, and singers, including Ralph Fiennes, Helen Mirren, Benedict Cumberbatch, Stephen Fry, Gillian Anderson, Anna Netrebko, Svetlana Zakharova, and Vladislav Lantratov will be featured in the performances.

The series of broadcasts starts on October 3 at the Central Cinema with a production ofIl Trovatore by Giuseppe Verdi. It will be broadcast from the Metropolitan Opera. Anna Netrebko, a famous Russian opera singer, is playing the part of Leonora.

Overall, six broadcasts are planned in October. Among the live performances is Hamlet, staged at the Barbican Centre in London and broadcast as a part of the National Theatre Live program. The critically acclaimed production of the famous Shakespeare play features Benedict Cumberbatch as Hamlet and Ciarán Hinds as Claudius. The play is a box office success, with more than a hundred thousand tickets sold out in a couple of hours one year before the performances began. According to The Guardian, ‘Cumberbatch admirers can take heart, his female devotees are entitled to swoon: in this trial of his acting strength, he emerges, unquestionably, victorious.’
